Achievements, galas and competitions

Many of our swimmers have taken part in several competitions over the past few months. In The Surrey Counties, Dylan won 3 medals and if it was not for his accident, he would have won even more. Victor came 11th in overall classification, Nicolle took bronze in 50m breast, Kibong and Caroline reached finals in breast and fly respectively and all of the swimmers achieved fantastic PBs.

In London Regional, our swimmers also did very well. Dylan had a bronze in 100 back and some others reach the finals and achieved PBs.

Our swimmers then took part in Southwark Championships in Dulwich. For many of them it was their first chance to compete against swimmers of other clubs. Many medals were won and we witnessed some fantastic races. In the Kent Junior League in Larkfield, our team, despite being decimated by unavailability, came third out of six clubs! Well done to those who attended. Hopefully we can do even better during the remaining 2 galas in September and November. The following day the Club attended a competition organized by Saxon Crown SC. Caitlin, Shelan and Sandra swam for the first time in an individual competition. All of our swimmers swam well, but also now realise that there is still a lot more to be done to beat the competition.

3rd July 2010 London Youth Games

In preparation for the London Youth Games, some of our swimmers were invited to a Southwark swim camp at Alleyns School pool in Dulwich. The team was selected following a borough wide gala at which more than 80 youngsters competed and further swim camps are now planned for later in the year.

A number of our swimmers were selected to represent the borough alongside swimmers from other clubs. They did exceptionally well and helped the team clinch the third place overall award for years six and under - behind Hillingdon and Edmonton. Our swimmers swam many individual races and relays, achieving fantastic PBs and took part in the aquathon. It was the highest placing secured since the mini Olympics were launched in 1977. The older girls of secondary school age came overall 7th and boys 19th.

Well done to everybody who represented Southwark in the Games. Full run down of the results can be found on the London Youth Games website: www.londonyouthgames.org

11th July 2010 London Region Sprints

This year's London Sprints gala was held at Crystal Palace and attended by a small number of Southwark Aquatics swimmers. Some long course PBs were achieved. A very successful day had Caroline take first place in butterfly and third place in freestyle and backstroke. Well done to everybody who attended.

11th September 2010 Kent Junior Round 2

At the second round of Kent Junior League we came second out of 6 teams making a fantastic improvement on the previous round! A big THANK YOU to all the swimmers who attended the gala -some of our swimmers were rather unwell yet they made the effort to swim for Southwark Aquatics-, to our coaches for putting so much effort into training and supporting the swimmers during the gala, to all helpers and the parents who lost their voices towards the end of the gala. The team spirit was high and everybody's effort to come and represent the club is really appreciated.

05.12.2010 Christmas Cracker Report

05.12.2010 a strong team from Southwark Aquatics went to Horsham. Despite very bad conditions on the road, our swimmers reached the destination to take part in this year's Christmas Cracker. Our swimmers competed exceptionally well in all the races with many medals won as listed below (with apologies for any omissions) and numerous top 6 places and PBs (in blue)

We took part in 58 races winning in total 19 medals! 26 PBs were achieved which shows that the commitment to training has paid off. Many congratulations to all the swimmers who achieved the times they were seeking - PBs, CQTs, RQTs. Those who haven't, hopefully will do so next time they compete. All of the swimmers should be proud of themselves even if not everything went their way. The past cannot be changed; the future is yet in your power (by H. White) so next time you may do even better if you learn from your mistakes.

The following swimmers have won medals: Caroline (3), Shelan (1), Kibong (1), Dylan (5), Jake (1), Kai (1), Mbeh (4), Sam (1) and Tony (1). Connor impressed everyone improving his 200m Freestyle PB by about 6 seconds while swimming most of the race without goggles! Sandra had a fantastic 50m race improving her PB by about 4 seconds! Spectacular 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th places came for us in 50 m fly boys! Mafwa, Nicolle, Jean Paul, Marlon and James were also in a very good shape getting good PBs and gaining some County qualifying times. Dylan broke to magical 30s in 50m freestyle! The parents offered vocal and moral support throughout the day. The coaches did a fantastic job on the poolside. Thank you to everyone who supported the swimmers on the day. Congratulations everyone!
