MTran

MacKinh receiving his award from the President of the ASA

Southwark Aquatics Swimming Club has an amazing volunteer coach - Mackinh Tran. Earlier this year, he was entered into the ASA's "Regional Aquaforce Award" in the category: OUTSTANDING CONTRIBUTION AT THE CLUB LEVEL. This was a unanimous decision by the committee members and the coaches alike. It was fantastic news for all at the club when we heard that MacKinh had secured the "Regional Volunteer" award with flying colours. On the 30th September 2012, the President of Management Board for the London Region - Mr David Barnes has visited our club to present Mackinh with the Award.

Our volunteer coach's fantastic contribution and dedication to the club has been recognized, and as a regional winner, Mackinh has now been put forward for a National Award. National winners will be announced at the 2012 ASA Annual Gala Dinner taking place on the 13th October at the Crowne Plaza in Nottingham. Unfortunately the event clashes with National Arena League round 1 hence Mackinh is unable to join other shortlisted nominees.

Amelia

Amelia's Progress

Amelia John was presented with the 2011/2012 Progress Cup by our President Mr. Albin. Amelia has been with the club for less than a year, and swam in her first gala in October 2011, where she managed to make most of her County times, first time out !! Since then her progress has catapulted her to being the fastest 9yr old long course 50m backstroker in the UK, and top six in the country in all the other strokes she has competed in.
Amelias season was defined by winning her age group category at the Surrey Counties, winning 6 gold medals on the way. Amelia has recently turned ten and is determined to keep improving her pb's and is looking forward to next season.
She would like to thank the club and her fantastic coaches for all the support she receives and to Mr. Albin for the cup and the fifty pound prize that went with it.

1st April 2012 Club Time Trials

On the 1st April Southwark Aquatics S.C. held this year's second Time Trials. Once again this was a perfect opportunity for the Coaches to assess the progress and performance swimmers of all levels have made.
Time Trials are an excellent time for parents to see how their swimmer has improved and to keep their own records of times achieved.
The next Time Trials will be held soon. If there are parents who wish to help on that evening, please speak to Katrina, the club secretary.

27th April 2012 Marie Curie for Cancer Swimathon

Friday, 27th April saw several swimmers from Southwark Aquatics S.C. swimming in "The Marie Curie for Cancer Swimathon". The swimmers swam different distances between 2.5K and 5K raising a fair amount of money for charity.

Sonny, age 9 and his sister Paige both did great jobs swimming 2.5K in respectable times. The Club's newly appointed Vice Chairman, Graham, swam a convincing 2.5K in a reputable time.

The 5K swimmers were Jake, Edgar, James, Connor and Amelia. Edgar and Jake stormed away swimming 5K in 1hour, 11 minutes, 40 seconds and 1 hour, 11 minutes, 46 seconds respectively. James, Connor and Amelia also all swam fantastic times. All the coaches and parents were very proud of the swimmers.
